Assumption Athletic Association Mission Statement
The Mission of the
Association is the promotion of the physical well being of parish students
through the programs of organized soccer, volleyball, basketball,
cheerleading, and various other games and sports. The programs teach
sportsmanship, the principles of team effort, self-discipline, and respect
for authority. All of this is taught within a Catholic viewpoint.
The
programs are primarily educational and recreational, not select programs.
The experience should be fun and enriching. The children should learn that
players without good sports skills are just as valuable persons as those
with.
The
Association is an integral part of our parish. Sports are a ministry and
our coaches are ministers helping bring Christ to every gathering.

Involvement
Each Sports program is open to children registered in Assumption and St.
Barnabas parishes. Parents or guardians of participating children are
included in our membership and encouraged to work towards each programs
success.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the Athletic Association meetings held
every third Tuesday of the month in the Parish Center. Meetings generally
start at 7pm with prayer and last approximately two hours. Everything from
our vision & values, reports from the various sports programs, and general
Association State-of-affairs is openly discussed
Coaching Philosophy
Dear Ministers as Coaches,
Inviting young people into full and active participation in the life of the
our parish is at the heart of Assumption athletics. Fostering leadership
skills, personal development, and teamwork are key elements of sport.
Assumption athletics is an important component of Youth Ministry. Making
the connection between physical and spiritual discipline, fellowship and
parish life, individual initiative and personal faith are all goals of our
Association.
The purpose of the
attached document is to assist individuals in understanding the underlying
philosophy and nature of our athletic programs. We hope that you will find
it a valuable aide in coordinating the athletic programs and teams within
our association. We ask each head coach and all assistant coaches to
carefully read and fully embrace the guidelines and thoughts it contains.
After doing so, please sign and date the "Coach's Acknowledgement" page and
return to your sport coordinator so they can file it with your coaching
volunteer paperwork (Protecting God's Children's Class Certificate,
Background check, etc.)
The Good News of the
Gospel permeates all we do as members of the Body of Christ, including the
athletic programs. As followers of Christ, whether at work, study or
leisure, we do all things with the desire to give God glory through the good
use of the gifts he has given to us.
Your mission is an
important one that can bring Christ's love and great positive influence into
the hearts of our children. We commend the dedication and hard work of each
of you. May God strengthen and bless you in this important task.
Sincerely in Christ,
Kevin Call, President,
