The purpose of the program is to encourage beginning students to become excited about reading, and to assist older students in improving reading skills and comprehension. This program enhances student progress in all academic areas, as reading is the foundation for success in all areas. The STAR reading program allows the school to assess periodically the reading level and progress of all students. This computer-based program assists the school in working with students to read at or above their current grade level.Students have the opportunity to earn rewards by achieving specific milestones in this program. The first through fourth grade students can earn a “lucky number reward” for every 10th test taken, where as, the fifth and sixth grade students who pass three tests in a quarter are also given a reward each quarter. However, the 7th and 8th grade students are required to pass a specific amount of tests each quarter. |
