Cold Calls
POLICY: Parishioners are asked to refrain from "cold calling" within the parish.
REASON FOR POLICY: Making a cold call to a parishioner may put unwanted pressure on them to join
your committee or participate in your event. In addition, by not having a relationship with this person,
you might be contacting them at a time in their life when they have already indicated to us that grief,
illness or hardship makes the intrusion particularly difficult.
We have all had unwanted solicitation calls in the evening from some organization, charity or business
asking for a donation or trying to sell us a product. The popularity of state and federal "Do-Not-Call"
lists is an indication of many peoples’ desires to avoid this intrusive tactic.
Although the telephone is an important tool used by all of us for keeping in touch, we offer other modes
of communication within the parish for the purpose of advertising or recruiting for your committee or
organization.
Please refer to the "Advertisement within the Parish" policy for more detail.
Let’s advertise as outlined in the policy, and let the Holy Spirit do the recruiting!
DESCRIPTION: It is the policy of this parish that organizations, committees, ministries, or
individuals will not make "cold calls" to other parishioners for the purpose of solicitation, recruitment
or donations. A cold call is defined as a telephone call to someone you do not know or without any
advanced notification, regarding a subject that has not been previously advertised. (Inviting someone
with whom you already have a relationship is not considered a "cold call".)
